Small & Home Business Connection’s Entrepreneurial Expo
Here’s your chance to provide support, education and networking opportunities for growing businesses in the Kansas City metro area. Through a partnership with the K-State Extension Office, the Small & Home Business Connection’s (SHBC) Entrepreneurial Expo will feature guest speakers, business booths and countless networking opportunities! Hip Hop and Entrepreneurship Forum
Entrepreneurship hits its groove during Global Entrepreneurship Week’s Hip-Hop event. Penn Valley Community College will play host to a town hall meeting focused on the connection between entrepreneurship and the hip-hop industry. Acclaimed artists Chuck D and P. Miller (formerly Master P) will lead a panel of experts in a thought-provoking discussion about entrepreneurship’s role in everything from its creation to merchandising and record sales in this growing, influential music genre.

GovFest
What can government agencies do for young visionaries? Find out at GovFest, where several government and nonprofit agencies will be on hand to assist beginning entrepreneurs and small business owners for little or no fee. Representatives from 40 local agencies will be attending this year’s event, including Kansas Small Business Development Center, KCSourceLink, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Kansas Data Center and many others.

A Celebration of Microentrepreneurship
Learn about the microenterprise development movement from a global, national, and local perspective, including a specific overview of the work of First Step Fund—a Kansas City-based nonprofit that helps low- to moderate-income individuals start their own businesses and which is also a national leader in the greater field of microenterprise development. Carol Taylor, founder/owner of A Clean Slate, will be the keynote speaker for this event. Taylor discovered success as a microentrepreneur after being laid off from her corporate job just weeks after her home was hit by a tornado..

Global Entrepreneurship Week is a combination and expansion of two successful initiatives, the debut of EntrepreneurshipWeek USA in 2007 and the inspiration behind it, Enterprise Week in the UK which was kicked off in 2004 by now-Prime Minister Gordon Brown. During the last year, these two efforts - led by the Kauffman Foundation in the US and the Make Your Mark campaign in the UK - combined to engage 2,720 partner organizations planning 6,891 activities that directly involved 929,449 individuals.
