Wendy Guillies, vice president of communications, provides strategic counsel, planning and execution of communications for the Kauffman Foundation. In this capacity, she and her team have managed the substantial expansion of the Kauffman Foundation’s brand as a trusted source for entrepreneurship research, information, and programming. In 2008, Guillies oversaw the launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week, a grassroots annual movement that now involves more than 100 countries and tens of millions of participants around the world. She joined the Foundation in April 2000, after three years as marketing communications manager with GeoAccess, a fast-growth entrepreneurial firm based in Overland Park, Kansas. Previously, she was with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, where she held a variety of positions, including creating and publishing the organization's first member newsletter and leading marketing efforts for the launch of two Medicaid HMOs in Kansas and Missouri.
Guillies started her communications career in Los Angeles at Blue Cross of California. From there she went on to work for two large Southern California hospitals, where she handled media relations, community outreach, special events, and publications.
Guillies serves on the board of Kauffman FastTrac. She is an alumnus of Centurions, a civic leadership program of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. She has served on the boards of professional communications associations, including the International Association of Business Communicators in Los Angeles and the Public Relations Society of America in Kansas City, and has received numerous awards for her publications, writing, and media relations work. Guillies graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
