Brent Merfen Biography

Brent Merfen is a knowledge engineer in investments for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, where he is a member of a team that manages the Foundation’s $2 billion portfolio. Merfen contributes to a broad range of investment initiatives, including the development of asset allocation and investment models, risk analysis, and opportunity cost measurement.

Merfen joined the Kauffman Foundation after ten years with American Century Investments in Kansas City, where he was most recently a reporting and performance analyst. In this role, he built proof of concept application for an enterprise-wide internal reporting system. During his time in the investment management industry, Merfen has worked with portfolio managers to design, test, and implement alpha models and portfolio construction techniques, led the development of a model building and testing framework, and built and maintained a historical data warehouse of time series market data from multiple third party data vendors that was used for research. Merfen earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Kansas State University.
