The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship was recently recognized as the top university business incubator in the world—beating out 150 incubators from 22 countries. The Houston-based incubator from Rice University led the charge as 15 U.S. universities dominated the top 25.
The University Business Incubator Index was part of a larger report, the Top University Incubators: Global Benchmark Report 2013 that evaluated best practices and isolated success traits of the top performers.
Following Rice was VentureLab from Georgia Institute of Technology, UB Technology Incubator from University at Buffalo State University of New York, SETsquared from the United Kingdom and Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast from Australia.
StartupSauna, based at Aalto University in Finland—and the host organization behind Global Entrepreneurship Week/Finland—was recognized as the best young incubator (in operation for less than five years). Other honors went to: Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator at the University of Florida (Top Biotech); NDRC Launchpad at Dublin City University (Top IT); and UB Technology Incubator (Top Life Sciences).
