This Week in Entrepreneurship Policy: Taxes, Data and the IRS

Last week, the Internal Revenue Service reported a major data breach where cybercriminals stole tax returns of more than 104,000 individuals. This week, Congress has that and other tax-related issues on its radar.

IRS commissioner John Koskinen will appear before the Senate Finance Committee as well as the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs to discuss the breach and what the IRS is doing to protect the personal information of millions of Americans.

Meanwhile, the House Judiciary Committee is examining nexus issues surrounding several tax-related bills, including:

HR 2315: The Mobile Workforce State Income Tax

HR 1643: The Digital Goods and Services Tax Fairness Act of 2015

HR ______: The Business Activity Tax Simplification Act of 2015

Members of the committee will hear from representatives of CTIA-The Wireless Association, Americans for Tax Reform, the National Governors Association, Council on State Taxation and more.

Other topics covered by hearings and meetings in the week ahead include:  The PATENT Act, oversight of the Congressional Budget Office, Export-Import Bank, small business needs regarding surface transportation, HubZone reauthorization and more.
