This Week in Entrepreneurship Policy: Smart Chips, Broadband and More

While much of the media attention this week on Capitol Hill will focus on the Republicans choosing a new speaker of the House to replace Congressman John Boehner, there are a variety of committee hearings on topics of interest to entrepreneurs.

The House Small Business Committee will assess the impact of the Europay, Mastercard, Visa (EMV) chip payment system on entrepreneurs and small business owners. The new smart chip system will be implemented nationwide this month—providing upgraded technology designed to protect against cybercrime and fraud, as well as increased liabilities and vulnerabilities.

Meanwhile, the House Energy & Commerce Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee discuss wireless spectrum and removing barriers to wireless broadband.

Other topics covered by committee hearings and meetings this week include:  National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) “joint employer” decision; the impact of regulation on minorities; drones and aviation safety, and more.
