This Week in Entrepreneurship Policy: Continuing Resolution Needed to Avoid Shutdown

With the possibility of a government shutdown on Thursday, Congress will be focused on passing a continuing resolution this week – with the Senate scheduled to take a procedural vote Monday afternoon.  You can also expect to hear a lot about Republicans jockeying for position to replace House Speaker John Boehner who announced late last week that he will be stepping aside at the end of October.

In committee hearings relevant to the entrepreneurship economy this week, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce will examine issues impacting the sharing economy including federal / state / local regulations, competition with incumbent industries and the appropriate role for the federal government moving forward.

On the Senate side, the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship will take a closer look at Gold King Mines waste water spill in Colorado this summer and its impact on small businesses around the area.

Other topics covered by committee hearings and meetings this week include:  National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) “joint employer” decision; update on the Affordable Care Act; federal procurement; consumer financial protection; cyber crime fighting and more.
