Call for Papers – Kauffman Firm Survey Research Workshop

Kauffman Foundation, Kansas City, MO
July 19-20, 2012

Submission Deadline: April 30, 2012

As the largest, new longitudinal social science survey produced in the last decade, research using the Kauffman Firm Survey is blossoming.  In an effort to support the community of scholars using the KFS in their research, the Kauffman Foundation is organizing a KFS Research Workshop on Thursday, July 19 and Friday, July 20. Additionally, professional development workshops will be offered on July 18 focusing on imputation for missing data and using survey weights.

Eight papers will be accepted for formal presentations on Thursday, July 19.  An additional 12 early stage papers will be accepted for participation in a paper development workshop on Friday, July 20.  In the paper development workshop small groups with senior mentors will discuss new research concepts being presented and provide feedback.

Papers from all disciplines are invited, but all papers must make use of the Kauffman Firm Survey in their analysis.  Only fully developed papers will be considered for the main workshop while abstracts and extended research notes will be accepted for application into the paper development workshop.  All work should be at a stage where it can still benefit from the group's discussion.

The Kauffman Firm Survey (KFS) is a panel study of 4,928 businesses founded in 2004 that are observed annually through 2011 in an effort to improve data available for the study of new businesses in the United States. The survey focuses on the nature of new business formation activity; characteristics of the strategy, offerings, and employment patterns of new businesses; the nature of the financial and organizational arrangements of these businesses; and the characteristics of their founders.

Please submit an electronic version of the paper or abstract (PDF format) no later than April 30, 2012 to kfs@kauffman.org. Selections will be finalized by May 15, 2012.
