Do nominees need to be affiliated with the college of business of their universities?
No. The Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship in Entrepreneurship Research encourages applications from a variety of academic disciplines. The research must, however, address questions of importance to entrepreneurship.
Does the nominee need to have a Ph.D.?
No, candidates may possess a D.B.A. or other doctoral degree equivalent to a Ph.D.
Are U.S. citizens serving as junior faculty members at universities outside of the U.S. eligible for this fellowship?
No. Only junior faculty members of accredited U.S. institutions of higher education are eligible.
Can the same nominator nominate more than one person for this fellowship?
Yes. The nominator may even nominate more than one person from the same university.
Can I nominate myself for this fellowship?
No.
Does the Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship make grants larger than $50,000?
No. All fellowships are for $50,000 and are payable over two years.
Are recipients of the Kauffman Dissertation Fellowship Program, or any other form of Kauffman funding, eligible for the Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship in Entrepreneurship Research?
Yes. As long as all of the other eligibility requirements are met, former Kauffman Dissertation Fellowship recipients and other Kauffman grantees are encouraged to apply.
Does the award include overhead or indirect costs for the applicant’s institution?
No. Kauffman Foundation policy does not permit overhead or indirect costs.
Are there limits to how the grant funds may be utilized?
Yes. Fellowship funding cannot be used for salary supplements, course buyouts, or summer salaries for the Fellows. However, the funding may support the work of graduate students and/or research assistants, as well as other opportunities directly related to the Fellows' research.
Does the nominee need to include a formal budget?
No, although the professional statement should include a general description of how the funds will be utilized. Should the nominee receive the Fellowship, a formal budget will be required before distribution of funds.
Are only assistant professors eligible for this fellowship?
No. All nominees, regardless of rank, must have received their doctoral degrees on or after September 1, 2002. Both tenured and tenure-track faculty are eligible.
May a nominee submit co-authored papers as a part of the application?
Yes, but at least one of the two papers submitted should be a single-authored paper.
