(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) March 9, 2011—The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation today announced a $200,000 sponsorship of StartupDigest (www.startupdigest.com), a members-only online community connecting the worldwide startup and tech ecosystem by informing individuals of startup events, job opportunities and educational content in their areas.
Since its inception in November 2009, StartupDigest has grown from 22 subscribers in one city to more than 120,000 subscribers in more than 50 cities.
"Kauffman research shows that high-growth, scale companies are the key to growing the economy," said Nick Seguin, manager of entrepreneurship at the Kauffman Foundation. "StartupDigest is educating entrepreneurs and connecting them with local networks of support to assist them in starting their companies."
Kauffman's commitment will assist in furthering StartupDigest's reach and builds on the Foundation's recent work to support the startup ecosystem, through organizations such as Startup Weekend and Venture Hacks.
"StartupDigest started as a simple idea to help entrepreneurs get involved in their local startup community through events, and it has quickly grown into a global company," said Chris McCann, co-founder of StartupDigest. "Going forward we want StartupDigest to become the leading media company for what’s going on in tech and startup communities around the world. The partnership with the Kauffman Foundation will help make this possible."
