New series offers Blank's insights on core initial tasks of a startup
(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) Jan. 22, 2014 – Kauffman Founders School launched a new education series today to help entrepreneurs develop their businesses during the startup stage by highlighting how startups are different from big companies.
The online content features insights from Steve Blank, a Silicon Valley serial entrepreneur, educator and co-author of The Startup Owner's Manual: The Step-by-Step Guide for Building a Great Company.
The "Startups" curriculum explains how new business owners quickly and effectively can identify the market for their products by employing a customer development methodology that fuels growth.
Defining a startup as "a temporary organization designed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model," Blank delves into how, unlike a large company, a new business needs to search for the right business model rather than execute a business plan. Blank then explores and offers advice on key questions, including:
- How does a startup differ from a big company?
- Why is it important to understand the distinction between existing, new, resegmented and clone market types, and how does the startup's market inform business strategy?
- Who are the desired customers? Has the entrepreneur identified the right customer for the right product?
- How are startup team roles different?
- What metrics offer the greatest value?
- How can a startup use customer feedback to pivot or proceed with a product or service?
