Kauffman School Opens Enrollment for Fifth-grade Students

At permanent campus at 63rd St. and Paseo, school will serve nearly 600 students in grades 5 to 8 during 2014-15 school year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 7, 2014) – Enrollment of the next class of fifth-grade students for the Ewing Marion Kauffman School's 2014-15 school year begins tomorrow, Jan. 8, and continues through March 7.

Interested families living within the boundaries of the Kansas City (Missouri) Public Schools may submit an enrollment application online at www.kauffmanschool.org or in person at the school at 6401 The Paseo.

Families also are invited to attend an information session to learn more about the Kauffman School and its mission to create college graduates. Sessions will be held Jan. 27 (6-7:30 p.m.) and Feb. 1 (10-11:30 a.m.) at the school. No reservation is required.

The Kauffman School recently completed the first semester of instruction at its new, permanent campus in southeastern Kansas City. The three-school campus, built on a site formerly occupied by the Church of the Nazarene World Headquarters, opened in August 2013. Construction on the site continues with a new high school building scheduled to open this summer.

The expanded campus equips the Kauffman School to grow in overall enrollment and number of grades served. A new fifth-grade class will be added each year until the school is complete from grades 5 through 12. At capacity, the school will serve more than 1,100 students.

Inspired and supported by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the Kauffman School opened in August 2011. It is a tuition-free public charter school that primarily serves students from Kansas City's lowest-income neighborhoods.

Students are provided a rigorous college preparatory curriculum and strong character development. The Kauffman School is led by Chief Academic Officer Hannah Lofthus and Interim Chief Executive Officer Corey Scholes.
