"Your company is your idea, your risk, and your life. You are the leader. But as it grows, it needs to change, and your role must evolve to match those changes. Your challenge is to become the dynamic leader that your company needs through every stage of its growth."
From "Leading At The Speed Of Growth"
by Katherine Catlin and Jana Matthews

The Kauffman Foundation Signature Series program, Leading at the Speed of Growth: Journey from Entrepreneur to CEO, provides entrepreneurs with the steps and leadership challenges they must incorporate and implement to keep their companies on the road to success.

Through interactive discussions, self-diagnostics and video clips of highly successful entrepreneurs, this Signature Series program explains how entrepreneurs must evolve as leaders at each stage of growth to ensure continuing success for their companies. Attendees will learn to identify "red flags" that indicate times they must to change their leadership style. This program describes the personal transitions that are needed and outlines the dangers that come with inaction. And it explains – in detail – what each new leadership role means... and how it will help take the company to the next level.

Here's What You'll Learn from this Program:

After initial start-up, entrepreneurial growth can effectively be mapped into three stages - initial growth, rapid growth and continuous growth. Knowing how you have to change as a leader at each stage is critical to ensure continuing success.

  • Initial Growth: Moving from the do-it-yourself mode, entrepreneurs should start to consciously manage proactively, stop making all the decisions, and hire multitalented people to support the company's goals of capturing market share and growing revenues. This is the first stage after Start-up, when you need to change from a Doer and Decision Maker to a Delegator and Direction Setter.
  • Rapid Growth: Moving from fast-paced, high flexibility organizations, entrepreneurs should start to fill voids in expertise, establish systems, and create and empower management teams to support the company's goals of securing dominant market share and warding off competitors. This is the stage when you strive to become a market leader - and need to change yourself into a Team Builder, a Coach, a Planner, and a Communicator.
  • Continuous Growth: With the potential to dominate their industries, entrepreneurs should now commit to reinforcing the company's values, hold their team accountable for sharing strategic leadership, push for ongoing reinvention, and work "on" rather than "in" the business. This is the stage when you need to explore new avenues for growth - and transform yourself into a Change Catalyst, an Organization Builder, a Strategic Innovator, and the Chief of Culture.
