Philip Gaskin

Director of Entrepreneurial Communities

Philip Gaskin is the director of Entrepreneurial Communities for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. He is responsible for the portfolio of grants and initiatives that relate to the Foundation’s goal of creating more effective and strategic ecosystems to increase new business formation, emerging business growth and overall entrepreneurial success in various sizes of metropolitan regions. Gaskin will work to develop a strategy for engagement in targeted areas that will have measurable impact on entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship support organizations and the entrepreneurial landscape.

Prior to joining the Kauffman Foundation, Gaskin was chief operating officer and director East Coast Operations at Mission Hub, which supports social entrepreneurs and impact investors in building sustainable businesses that drive long-term social and environmental change. Here, he led organization-wide initiatives on process and product improvements for greater efficiency and differentiated value to ecosystems of entrepreneurs and innovators. He opened Mission Hub’s New York City and Washington, DC, Impact Hub campuses directing talent development, marketing and ecosystem building in these cities. He served as lead partner to Impact Hub’s global association to promote inter-organizational alignment, shape global business strategy and advance strategic development efforts. Earlier, Gaskin was a political campaign director for various candidates, including Cory Booker for U.S. Senate and President Barack Obama in Pennsylvania for Obama for America, where he built and scaled grassroots ecosystems of volunteers that delivered historic results, aligning community, city and state leaders to support his initiatives. Prior, Gaskin was senior vice president, Global Business Strategy for the travel division at BCD Group, a multi-national conglomerate specializing in global travel management and strategic consulting to Fortune 500 companies, overseeing global operations, customer strategy, account and contract management, technology, finance and business development for a 400-person multi-national business unit representing $1B in revenues. Of note, Gaskin led teams that created the industry’s first global service marketplace, an automated and interlinked ecosystem platform providing real-time service and solutions to corporate travelers in over 30 countries.

Gaskin graduated from California State University with a Bachelor of Science in marketing.
