Celebrating and Accelerating Education Innovation

The Lean Lab culminates its fourth Incubator Fellowship program by awarding $50,000 to build and expand two education innovation firms in Kansas City.

LEANLAB Education’s Launch[ED] Day is a culminating event for the 2017 LEANLAB Incubator Fellowship, which provides support and coaching to early-stage startups focused on reimagining public education through entrepreneurship. The fourth cohort, which includes five education innovation ventures, was asked to explore two key questions:

  • How do we rethink teaching and learning to prepare for the future of work?
  • How do we co-create solutions in response to community needs?

“We spent early 2017 conducting community interviews and doing a landscape assessment to understand the challenges and opportunities for innovation, identified by parents, students, teachers, and school system leaders throughout our landscape,” Katie Boody, co-founder and CEO of LEANLAB, previously The Lean Lab. “We then recruited five potential education entrepreneurs from across the country to come to Kansas City to address identified challenges in creative ways.”

After Launch[ED] Day pitches on Nov. 16, $25,000 was awarded to Healthy Hip Hop (H3) and Transportant for a total investment of $50,000. This investment will help these firms continue to build and expand their impact in the Kansas City region.
