Youth Advisory Board: Putting young people at the grantmaking table

The Foundation created a Youth Advisory Board (YAB) composed of high school students from across the metro area who reviewed funding proposals, set grantmaking guidelines, and recommended grants. YAB made youth codesign and student voice visible in the Foundation’s own processes. Members learned philanthropy and civic leadership; the Foundation gained insight into youth needs and perspectives. This initiative likely represented the Foundation’s first participatory grantmaking activity.
