A year of grantmaking: data, themes, and what’s next

In August 2024, we launched our refreshed grantmaking strategy, opening five rounds of grant application opportunities designed to build equitable economic mobility for people across the region. Grant opportunities

We offer Capacity Building, Collective Impact, Project, and Research grants on a regular grant cycle.

Capacity Building

Funding available: $100,000 – $250,000

For 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with a need to build their capacity in order to strengthen or scale impact in our focus areas.

Collective Impact

Funding available (planning): Up to $500,000

Funding available (implementation): $5 million to $20 million over multiple years

For coalitions of high-capacity organizations to create a systems-change strategy to close economic mobility gaps in the Kansas City region.

Project

Funding available: At least $250,000, per year, multiyear

For organizations to design and implement, or scale a multiyear project that drives impact across our strategies.

Funding available: At least $150,000 per year

To build deeper understanding of our focus areas, address gaps in our research, and translate research findings into practice.

The Kauffman Foundation is unable to provide funding for the following:
  • bricks and mortar, including buildings or housing
  • endowments
  • institutions that discriminate
  • loans, expenses, or seed capital for a private business
  • lobbying or political activities
  • medical (physical or mental health)
  • political, social, or fraternal organizations
  • religious activities
  • requests to fund individuals, including direct scholarships
