Conference creates space to support and amplify educators of color in Kansas City

2012-2023

Renewing a Regional Focus

Education

Since 2017, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the Amplify Community Advisory Committee has hosted Amplify: Empowering Educators of Color for Student Success, a free annual conference that supports educators of color in the Kansas City metro area.

Amplify Conference 2025

The Amplify conference creates space for educators and education leaders of color to connect, share insights, and learn from one another, as well as from thought leaders and practitioners from across the country.

During the event, national thought leaders and practitioners and leaders and educators of color in the Kansas City region come together to learn from one another. Beyond sessions and presentations, are memorable keynote speakers including Christopher Emdin, PhD; Curtis Valentine; Heather McGhee; Dena Simmons; and Joyce Abbott.

Amplify Conference 2023

The 2023 Amplify Conference celebrated investment in the education community with the EduTank pitch contest. Four Kansas City schools each won $25,000 – a $10,000 DonorsChoose gift card and a $15,000 grant from the Kauffman Foundation – to fund school projects. Educators from Brookside Charter School, Hogan Preparatory Academy, Kansas City Girls Preparatory Academy, and North Kansas City High School were selected to present their visionary projects at the event. University Academy and the Kauffman School also received $10,000 DonorsChoose gift cards. This direct-to-educators funding invested in solutions designed by those closest to the issues schools, students, and families face – sending money straight to the students and the classrooms.

The energy and camaraderie of the conference have also extended to school visits, a daytrip to the National Brown v. Board of Education National Historical Park, and a Amplify Summit, which focused on the History of Education in Kansas City.
